The Waimea Outdoor Circle was chartered in 1989 as a branch of the Outdoor Circle, a non-profit founded in Honolulu in 1912. We embrace the mission of the Outdoor Circle: To keep Hawai ‘i clean, green, and beautiful by preserving, protecting, and enhancing our environment through education and community involvement to create a healthy future for ourselves and our children.
Our primary volunteer project is Ulu La‘au, The Waimea Nature Park, a long-term restoration dedicated to the propagation and preservation of la’au kamaʻāina (endemic and indigenous native plant species), and making them accessible to the general public. The park boasts the most varieties and colors of ʻōhiʻa lehua trees anywhere in a single location.
In addition to our commitment to la’au kamaʻāina, the Waimea Outdoor Circle monitors signs and billboards and advocates for underground wiring to preserve the beauty of our community for future generations.
